It’s been a little quiet over here on the blog!

We have been busy catching butterflies and dreams here at Munchkins and Mohawks….

It’s the busiest time of the year but also the best time of the year.

This pretty little family drove 16 hours all the way from Oklahoma to create some magic with us! It’s days like these where I really need to pinch myself…

Sixty….seconds that is. It all started a few days back when the snow began. It was really coming down. We haven’t had much around here which is not the norm. Actually can you believe I haven’t shot in the snow at all this season yet! So this was a must do! Off to the closet I went to see what we could whip together. Tone on tone- I knew that much . I really try to pay attention to keeping tonal harmony in my images. I love texture too and layering- so there ya have it. Some fur- brocade- and lace….crown that is. You probably have noticed I shoot a lot with these beautiful crowns. Well- I think everyone should feel like royalty plus it is super fun!

If The Crown Fits is a beautiful little shop with all sorts of pretties for you princess. Clothes- check, snow- check, crown- check, happy child- well……..

Really it was pretty much over before it started. See that shot near the end of the set. Yep- that is my baby girl throwing really cold and wet snow. It was all down hill from there. The stinging pain of frostbitten hands pretty much stinks more than anything

That’s it.

Wait- I lied. That wasn’t it. I was pretty discouraged by the screeches of my sweet girl, that when one of my best friends Taryn, from Blu Hippo Photography, came over she insisted that I go jump into some clothes and get in there. How convenient to have a BFF be a photog ; – ) Since my girlie was still dressed and the baby had woken up game was on. At least for another 60 seconds.

Good stuff in no time flat ; – )

This was one of those sessions that I couldn’t sleep the night before ; – )

One of my favorite clients. I have shot little Miss three times now and her personality just gets sweeter and sweeter! She has such a pleasant demeanor- but of course as her parents are just lovely people, beautiful on the inside and out. They are passing down some wonderful traits to their little beauty.

This session was perfection. The clothing- lighting- location- tone- everything. Well- it was like 30 degrees outside…that I could have changed, but everything else was just pure magic.

These first set of images were shot in an amazing artist’s loft. He was so generous to open up his treasure to us. Every corner I turned something beautiful was before me. You can even see an original right there on the floor behind her.

Then we moved on to this old house with amazing light and a Teddy Bear orphanage- Nah, not really , but it looks like it, huh?

And off for some family time…….

I literally squealed when I shot this!

And to finish the night off some shot of mom and dad.

I just loved watching their natural interaction.Beautiful people.

Kind of seems crazy that each year as the holidays approach the thought of shooting my own family is dreadful- so this year I took a different approach to it. No fancy clothes- well, maybe on the baby…she doesn’t talk back yet..lol- No sit here and pose or do this or that and guess what? You only want to shoot for 20 minutes, okay?! I tried to capture my own little munchkins as they are.

My oldest- hates the thought of taking pictures, but once he is there he LOVES it an totally pulls out the GQ moves.

My middle- never ever stops moving- won’t look at me to save her life and is generally just the goofiest little thing!

The baby- super sweet, photogenic, and pretty much the cutest baby out there.

So there ya have it my little imperfect perfect family.

Yep- she just mooned me!

Told ya she was crazy!

I am always so honored when I am asked back to photograph a family.

I love the relationship I form with my clients….. you may remember the older sister’s newborn images from a few years back……..

Lucy’s Newborn images.

It is crazy to me how much these siblings looked alike. Now Lucy has changed so much from her newborn shoot- but the resemblance is amazing!

With the shot below I tried to recreate a coordinating image for the little brother ; – ) I think the tones are just gorgeous.

I figured it out….

I know why I love the grandma of these sweet kiddos. She reminds me soooo much of my grandma. So much do that it actually brings tears to my eyes just thinking about her.

I have had the honor to meet the other half of this beautiful family. You may remember their cousin’s session.

I love to watch families interact. To watch the love and giggles between them. Watching their grandma dote over her grandchildren is really something special.

I am so happy to be able to give these special memories to their families.

What I wouldn’t do to be able to have my grandma dote over images of my kiddos ; – )

This family is one of my favorites.

They are young – fun- full of spunk- and the mom and I could chat all day!

So knowing that I was really looking forward to their session. Beautiful fall colors- and all things boy.

I really love how taking family pictures can turn into an adventure. The boys posed for a few wall portraits then we dug into the fun stuff—–tricycles, swords and ended with a bubble bath!!!! By the end of the night I went from “lame” to the “most fun picture lady”….SCORE!

The perfect family…….

How fun was this??! What kiddos wouldn’t want to splash around without a care in the world.

I love meeting new little people when they first enter the world.

I love watching a family grow. I love watching tiny little babies become curious toddlers.

This family just welcomed their newest member to their brand new home. I hope they look back at this image and remember the newness of it all….

I just love playing with little kids. As I was driving home- I realized- to most kids- getting your portraits taken must seem like one big recess session….

Playing “stop and go”, red light-green light, singing “if you are happy and you know it, clap your hands”, catching balls, and even tossing stars?!

It was so neat to be able to shoot the beautiful kiddos of my dear childhood friend. It is such a miracle to see us become the next generation of moms.

Beautiful baby girl will be celebrating her first birthday soon…check out those eye lashes!!

And little mister just LOVED his hat. Man that kid could toss it. Look how happy!

They are such an amazing new family!

So as perfectly as the session started is equally how crazy it ended.

A full moon and a car crash. Who would have guessed?? I do have a bit of a record with crazy stuff at sessions though ; – )

I do really feel grateful that it was not a night that football practices. Normally these street would be filled with little kids and baby carriages- mine included, as my son practices football here : – ( Thankfully no one was seriously hurt. It was a crazy night though.

Darn full moon- I even lost a lens!
